Have you ever dreamed of pulling off sweet mid air stunts while driving your ATV through rough terrain in a race to win cool prizes and upgrades for your ATV? Well if you are like me it will always just be a dream, but the guys at Black Rock Studio have given us the ability to live out that dream virtually with Pure. Black Rock Studios (formerly Climax Racing) is best known for pushing the envelope for their racing games, could Black Rock Studios have done it again?
Pure starts you out by letting the player pick a character male or female and then puts you right in the driver’s seat of designing your own ATV from the ground up. Everything from the chassis to the bolts on your ATV can be customized and changed giving you total control over how you’re ATV will perform. You can customize it to be a stunt bike, racing bike, a bike that handles perfect, combination of everything, and much more. There are many options you can pick while creating your ride, that in fact with all the different parts you unlock along your journey it is possibly to make 60,000 different bikes. So when you hop online to race with your newly customized ride there is a great chance that no one else is riding the same bike as you.
At first playing this game I was a little bit skeptical about the gameplay but shortly after playing through the first few maps the game surprised me. The control scheme which is by far one of the most important aspects to a racing game is just how you would expect it to be. The details in the environments are outstanding. Pure has over 30 different tracks on seven real world locations that include Wyoming, Italy and New Mexico, where you will find yourself racing to the finish with 15 other AI players.
The players character will react to the environment around him, what I mean by that is if you are racing on a map filled with mud then your character will start to slowly get covered in it head to toe. The physics that Black Rock Studios used is pretty dead on to what you would expect an ATV to handle in different terrain along with when you are sometimes flying through the air after failing to land that top notch trick.
My only issue with this game is that when you go out of bounds just a little bit it will kill your progress as if you were knocked off your bike, it can get slightly annoying especially when you are in a tight intense race.
Overall this game is great! If you are a racing fan like myself and always wondered what it would be like to pull off 300 plus foot jumps in an ATV well now you won’t have to dream because in Pure you are able to live out that dream without having to suffer the real injury if you didn’t complete that jump. Between the detail in the graphics and beautiful environments to the nasty crashes and the soundtrack this game has it all.
